Aika is a free online timer built to be private by default. There are no user accounts, no advertising, no cross-site tracking, and no cookies. This page explains the little data we do process and why.
Who we are
Aika is an independent personal project. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, get in touch at info@aika.app.
Your timers
The timers you build run entirely in your browser, and we do not keep a database of them or require an account. When you create a share link, the timer's durations and any labels you have added are encoded directly into the link's web address so the recipient opens the same setup.
Please note that if a share link is opened, our analytics records that web address, including the durations and labels it contains, just as it does for any page visit (see below). For that reason, avoid putting anything private or personal in a label you intend to share.
Analytics
We use Umami to understand how the site is used in aggregate, for example how many people visit a page or start a timer. Umami is privacy-focused: it does not set cookies, does not track you across other websites, and does not build a profile of you. It processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to produce anonymous, aggregate statistics. These statistics include the web addresses of the pages visited; because a shared timer's configuration lives in its address, opening a share link records that configuration (its durations and labels) in our analytics.
Hosting and security
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel automatically logs technical request data (including IP addresses) for a limited time. We also apply basic rate limiting to protect our contact and API endpoints from abuse. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in keeping the service available and secure.
Contacting us
If you email us at info@aika.app, we will receive your message and email address so we can reply. We use these only to respond to you and do not use them for marketing.
What we do not do
- We do not use cookies or similar device storage for tracking.
- We do not show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not require an account or collect sign-up details.
Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA, the GDPR gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it, and to object to certain processing. Because we collect so little, and no account data, there is usually little to act on, but you can exercise these rights or ask any question by emailing info@aika.app.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the date above. If we ever introduce anything that stores information on your device beyond what is strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent first.
